Cognitive failure

Parking on my campus is a miserable experience, and parking near my building in particular is nearly impossible. There is one small lot adjacent to my building, but there are only 20 spots, and half of them are reserved parking for a clinic. The 10 fac/staff spots are usually full by 7:30am--often before 7:30am, actually, with students who parked there overnight and havent moved their cars. Alternatives include parking illegally in the closest lot (it is reserved for a performance facility) or to park in one of 2 faculty lots 3-6 blocks away (my building is on a hill, and both of these lots are at the very bottom of the hill).

It was raining this morning and I arrived a bit after 8 so I almost didnt even check the small lot, but for some crazy reason, there were 4 spots left. Overjoyed, I gathered up my 9 tons of crap and walked the 50 feet into the building. This is the first time all semester that I've gotten a spot in this lot.

So this afternoon, when I left campus to run to the pharmacy (on a new antibiotic for ears--still cant hear a damn thing and the pain is back), I lugged my 9 tons of crap down the hill, over the river and through the woods (ok, no river), toward the lot at the bottom of the hill.

I was 3/4 of the way there before I remembered: I was parked in the close lot!!

So, guess how pissed off I was when I had to walk back up the hill, past the building, and into the "close" parking lot?
